dA v7

Journal Entry: Tue May 18, 2010, 5:13 PM

So far so good, but two major issues I'm having...

Firstly, I have always hated dA's way of resizing submissions, why can't they find a way that it keeps the image sharp and clear and free of mashed jpeg artefacts? even if they did it... at least allow us to drag large images as an alternative. Panoramas look hideous resized. I really wouldn't mind seeing an ugly resized rubbish if one can easily click to view in full size. :(

example on my laptop is: [link] it scaled my 1600px wide image to 1560px :(

and where have the comments (and anything else) gone in films? [link]

browsing the gallery seems to be buggy in chrome as well... will try disabling some plugins.

If the person resize it properly first before they upload it, it will be fine.

I was about to say that the resize works better now.. It seems pretty sharp to me.

The problems with the video pages happen because of the new browsing system. When you go to a deviation, it doesn't take you straight to the actual page, but rather to some kind of quick page. You can see that by looking at the url, to visit the actual page you have to click on the title of the deviation. I'm guessing the do this so you get to the deviation faster.

However, I think the problems with the 'quick page' will go away as more people notice it. I know for regular deviations this isn't an issue so i assume they'll fix it pretty soon. For the time being, you just have to make sure you're on the actual page when viewing videos.

I would like to have seen something that did form to the images, rather than force the images to heed to the form of dA. Something like this.. [link]

3 other major complaints.. Spacing, sizing, and styling. The spacing is just crap, and has always been on dA. Everything seems to be crowded together to back more shit in, whereas it should be spaced better and also sized better (to put more focus on certain content.. i.e. the header typography are the same size as everything else). The styling should be a lot less dramatic and more minimalist - take something like behance's new beta design.

I like the concept behind some of the new enhancements, but this hardly qualifies as a 'version', but more of an upgrade to the existing site.

I would also like to see an option to have fixed width of 1024x768. This is pretty much a standard for user interface design. With the amount of content that something user-based like a social network includes.. It really just makes it seem fatty and spread out for bigger resolutions than 1024x768. Flexible width really only works with smaller infrastructures, like a portfolio for example.
